Yuko Hayashi is a potter who has taken over as the fourth generation of a Kiyomizu-yaki pottery kiln.
Inspired by the Japanese confectionery called “hasamigiku,” she developed a new pottery technique called “Tsuchihasami.”
The process of cutting into the clay one by one using scissors while the clay is still soft requires unimaginable concentration and solid technique.
The delicate and elegant works that result from this original technique have received extremely high praise both in Japan and overseas and are often featured in the media.
