This Iga all-purpose cup is characterized by its natural glaze, which is formed when natural ash that has fallen onto the surface of the work melts and becomes glass-like.
This Ceramic work is fired in a wood-fired kiln using traditional methods. The flame's flow and temperature changes produce subtle tints in the work. It can be used for various purposes, such as sake and hot tea cups. 
Makimasa Imai is the son of Masayuki Imai, a famous potter who received the Order of Cultural Merits. He is also a highly acclaimed potter in Japan and abroad. While based in Kyoto, he is particularly interested in firing his works in the climbing kiln in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, which is 400 km away from Kyoto, where his father built it. The power of the wood's natural flames maximizes the clay's characteristics, giving his works a deep finish. He works on his creations with the hope that his works will contribute to people's rich lives.
